New bus times web, desktop and mobile 1.15
I have updated Brighton Bus Times to include web, desktop and a mobile version. A new web site, www.brightonbustimes.com is now available where all versions can be accessed and downloaded.
Desktop versions are available as a widget for Mac OS X and a gadget for Windows Vista. THe web version is on the home page of the web site, and a web clipping suitable for iPhone and other mobiles is available at www.brightonbustimes.com/mobile.html

Dear Sirs,
I am writing to register my complete disgust at the frequency of the 5b bus service. I rely on this service to convey me to my shop. This morning (18th) I arrived at my bus stop at 10am for the 10.07 service. I noticed five 5b buses heading towards the Hollingbury Industrial Estate but NONE heading in my direction until approximately 10.28. Your bus schedules are a complete waste of time since you are quite unable to adhere to them. I would be most interested in your comments.

George,
Fine with the comment, but you should really be posting it to www.buses.co.uk which is the website of Brighton & Hove bus company, with whom I am in no way affiliated.
Glad you used the site though!

Tried this several times –both mac widget, and website version (tried on iphone)– either does not work or info unreliable.
Stop: “Westbourne St.” (btw, it appears twice when you type first few letters for some reason).

Hi jj,
Sorry you have had a poor experience, I will try to fix where possible but as you will see things are sometimes out of my control.
The timings are sourced from citytransport.org.uk which get them from the same source as the bus displays on the street, so unfortunately if the times are wrong it is down to Brighton & Hove and Siemens (who make the system). Lately the online source for the times has been out of service frequently, which causes the widget and brightonbustimes.com website to only display an empty display board. Again, this is out of my control, although perhaps I could display a more useful message and will look to do this in the next release..
Westbourne Street twice is a mistake at my end and I will correct it in the next release. However, either selection will display the bus times for Westbourne Street (it uses the same stop id) when available.

Hi Quentin - any plans for an iPhone app version? I was thinking of pulling something together quickly if not… Would be great to be able to use your code as a starting point although I’d have to modify it a fair bit. Shoot me a quick mail if you want to chat about it?

Pete, by all means make an iPhone app. I was planning to do it myself, but just dont get the time. If you would share the xcode proj with me I can keep it in step with updates to the widget/gadget/website.

I live in Newhaven and the Bus times is great, but now doesn’t show anything beyond Rottingdean. Why is this?

It appears that Brighton & Hove have changed the bus stop identifiers, particularly around Newhaven. I will need to update the applications with new stop ids.

A chap called Rick Thompson has developed an Iphone app available from the App-Store called either Brighton Bus Times or Brighton & Hove Bus Times.
The bus stop identifiers beyond Rottingdean are managed by East Sussex County Council not Brighton & Hove so unfortunately I can’t help you with that problem.

Hi, the widget for Mac hasn’t been working for awhile now for the Church of Good Shepherd stop. I downloaded it again and replaced the earlier version, but still no bus times. It works online, but not on the widget version. Is that a glitch you can fix? Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback Barbara. To be honest I havent updated the widget for sometime and I really need to revisit it as the way the information is made available by Brighton Buses has changed and that can cause problems with stops not displaying and the like. Also, a Bus Times for the iPhone has also been released which gives much the same functionality in your hand, so I believe many people have turned to that. Having said all that, I will try and update it again if I can get a full bus stop list from Brighton Buses web site.
